The Volkov Commanders : PANOPLY

GREETINGS!

The Volkov Commanders return from their Moonbase to art direct Salfords best music festival Sounds from the Other City as they celebrate their 10th year! Expect pop up performances, exciting happenings and dazzling things for your eyes.

The Volkov Commanders are a performance collective consisting of 3 moon beings - our work centres on costume, movement, audience participation and collaboration, you can find out more about us here.

www.volkovcommanders.co.uk

We are re-creating a performance piece we did for the festival in 2011 and we need your participation to make it happen.

We are looking for artists or designers or just people that like to do things to come up with an idea for and make a costume that incorporates sound through movement. Your costume will become part of a parade that will snake it’s way through the festival creating a cacophony of insane sound and movement.

Take a look at this video of us performing in our costumes back in 2012 here - we also went on to make a music video with the costumes. The entire track is made from using sounds sampled from the costumes. You can see that here

The only limitation on how your costume should look is that it should disguise the human form in some way - cover the face, add more limbs, make it otherworldly - but the main thing is that it makes a sound and you can dance in it. How you achieve that is up to you. You can also come a perform with us too if you like - or just bring/send us your costume.

There isn’t a budget for materials - but we thoroughly recommend the use of recycled and found materials to make your costume - and we can offer you a free ticket to the festival.

Some transport/postage costs can also be covered - please get in touch with us about it.

If you are interested in participating in this project please send us an email with the subject heading “AND NOW FOR SOMETHING DIFFERENT” so we can start our conversation.

This time we want to say a massive THANK YOU to the creative whirlwind that is Bren O’Callaghan, an amazing producer, curator, artist, all round good egg and the most photogenic man we’ve ever seen! Bren has has supported us from the very beginning and has provided us with some out of this world opportunities including the chance to work with Famous new media artist Jeremy Bailey, faux queen Trixxie Carr and mega babe Honey Mahogany. Without Bren we wouldn’t have had any of our favourite experiences ever. EVER!

Thank you for coming to all our shows, thank you for playing with us and letting us dress you up, thank you for believing in us.

Here is a little stop frame animation of us working in our Moon Camp at the Mill.

We are starting a series of posts that say THANK YOU to all the wonderful people that we have the pleasure of meeting and working with. Starting with the fabulous DIE HEXEN aka D Lucille Campbell aka performer woman extraordinaire! D has worked with us on several projects so far and we first met her when working with Jeremy Bailey on the Master/Slave invigilator system and D offered to perform as one of the slaves. We were a little bit starstruck when we first met D, especially after watching her mesmerising and enchanting performance at the Record Store Day event at Soup Kitchen back in April as Die Hexen. Most recently we worked with D at an event called Human Beast a showcase conceived by the music promoter/label masterminds Sways and Fat Out Till You Pass Out. Where we transformed her from a regular human beast  into a more perfect and improved version. Thank you for letting us work with you! Here’s to many more projects together. To listen to Die Hexen’s dark and magical sounds go here
